A large number of people in different parts of the world are at risk due to the rise of AIDS even as authorities keep trying to contain it. While many try to find preventive measures against HIV, there are also state backed initiatives for the same, The Deccan Chronicle reports.

Meanwhile in Mozambique, around one lakh men will be circumcised in a bid to check the spread of STIs among the population. While 84000 men have already undergone circumcision last year, this campaign focuses on areas where the practice isn’t very common.

Male circumcision has been found to reduce chances of HIV among men by 60 percent according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Delicate foreskin is vulnerable to HIV as it can tear easily and it is also a common route for the virus to enter someone’s body.

Meanwhile officials say that circumcision is only a way to prevent people from getting HIV and isn’t a cure for it.
