200 primary students of BRAC-run schools get education materials

Huge quantity of education materials were distributed among 200 primary school students belonging to poor families of five BRAC-run schools situated in Pairaband Sadarpur area under Mithapukur upazila here on Tuesday, report agencies.
The education materials were distributed at a daylong Community Action Day programmes organised by the UK-based International Citizen Service (ICS) at Begum Rokeya Smritikendra hall room in Pairaband village.
Pairaband Jano Kollan Unnayan Sangstha (PJKUS), Chaudhury Youth Club and Bazlur Rahman Youth Club assisted in organising the programme with finical cooperation of the Department for International Development (DFID) and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).
Drawing competitions were also organised for the primary school students belonging to the poor and distressed families of the area and later, prizes distributed among winners of the competitions on the occasion.
Executive Director of PJUKS Jahangir Chaudhury presided over the function participated by students, guardians, teachers, representatives, public representatives, local community leaders, volunteers of ICS, VSO, BRAC and other organisations.
Representative of teachers of Pairaband union Rezaul Karim Jewel, Programme Coordinator of PJUKS Nure Alam Siddiquey Newton, Programme Officer Ziaul Haque and Manger of BRAC Pre-primary Education Programme Ms Shahana addressed.
Volunteers of the UK-based ICS, including its Team Leader Victoria
Anderton, Jhon Platt, Graham Hanmond, Darren Kenndy, Daniel Foo, Melisa Hill and its National Team Leader Salem Hossen, also addressed the occasion moderated by Asif Iqbal Shourav.
Each of the 200 students got note books, pens, pencils, geometry boxes, pencil erasers, Tiffin boxes and other necessary education inputs and materials on the occasion.
After receiving the education materials, Mithila Akhter, 8, of class two, Imran, 9, and Salma, 9, of class three and Shakil of class one expressed their happiness and said that the materials would help them continuing their studies better.
