3 JMB members, woman squad leader held in B’desh


The Detective Branch (DB) Police has arrested four militants including Fatema, wife of a militant outfit Jamatul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) leader Sajid, here last night.
The police arrested them from city’s Sadarghat area at 10pm on Saturday and it is alleged that they were involved with bomb blast incident held at Bardawan in India.
The arrestees are JMB members Abdullah Quazi, Mohammad Israt Ali Sheikh and Mohammad Shawkat Sarder.
Police also recovered few leaflets along with explosive materials from their possessions.
M Manirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of DB, told this in a press conference at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media centre here this noon.
Deputy police commissioner Krishna Pada Roy, Additional deputy police commissioner Mohammad Sanwar Hossain and deputy police commissioner of DMP’s media cell Masudur Rahman were present.
Quoting Fatema’s statement on her presence at the bomb blast spot, DB joint commissioner said, “Fatema gave important information about the JMB leaders who were involved with the Bardawan bomb blast.”
Fatema was a key leader of recently formed JMB’s women squad and already has provided various military training to the members of the women squad at different hideout training camps located at Shimulia of West Bengal in India.
Fatema, so far has imparted training to some 20-25 women members where 5-6 women are from Bangladeshi citizen, said the DB official.
Fatema along with her other arrestees joined JMB on 2004 and they were arrested during BRAC bank robbery at Gopalganj on 2005 and they went to different hideouts at various places after getting bail on 2011.
