DHAKA, Detective Branch (DB) of police this morning arrested seven persons including three operatives of the banned Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from their den-cum bomb producing factory along with huge explosives including handmade grenades from the city’s Mirpur area,BSS reports.
“The arrests were made from a five-storey building near a Children Park at block-A, road no-9 under Shah Ali Police Station this morning following an information of residing three JMB members there,” joint commissioner Monirul Islam of DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told reporters on the spot.
“We have seized a huge quantity of handmade grenades, explosives and equipment of making those as the den was used as bomb making factory,” he said. “Three of the arrestees were JMB’s different level members while we are trying to find out identities of four others. The arrestees were sent to DB office at Mintoo Road where they are now being extensively interrogated,” he also said.
He said, “The criminals hurled grenades at DB personnel in their attempt to flee the scene. But, none was however hurt in the explosions.” DB’s bomb disposal unit is now destroying the grenades and explosives on the spots, he said, adding that search for more bombs is going on. But they could not confirm the exact number of hand grenades seized from the spot.
“Fugitive JMB operatives are now trying to regroup their organization aimed at carrying out subversive acts. But their number is not much higher. Many of them have already arrested and efforts are on to capture the remaining others,” Monirul said.
“It will not be possible for JMB to get further strength after regrouping their organization as they have already been shattered due to the ongoing drives of the law enforcers against militants,” he opined.
Filing of cases is underway.
