4 ‘JMB men’ held in Rangpur

Police in a drive arrested four suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) along with arms and ammunitions from Shahjadpur village in Sadar upazila early Sunday,UNB reports.

The arrestees were identified as Belal, 46, Ashraful Alam, 23, Al-Amin, 25, and Earshad Alam, 27. Tipped off that the four suspected JMB men were taking preparation to carry out subversive activities, a team of police conducted a drive at Shahjadpur village around 2am, said officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Jahidul Islam.

However, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the JMB men hurled crude bombs towards them, leaving five police personnel injured. Later, police opened fire and arrested the militants.

Police also recovered a locally-made pistol, several rounds of bullets, a machete, a Chinese axe and three crude bombs from the spot. The details of the operation will be disclosed at a press briefing later, the OC added.
