At least five passengers of the Dhaka-bound Chattala Express train from Chittagong were injured in an accident at Puniaut under Brahmanbarhia on Friday afternoon, police said, reports agency.
The engine and two compartments of Chattala Express have derailed . Dhaka’s rail links with Chittagong and Sylhet have not been affected by the derailment as there is an alternative line in Brahmanbarhia Station area.
Brahmanbarhia Government Railway Police camp in-charge Sub-Inspector Zakaria Sheikh said the engine and the two bogies derailed minutes after the train left the station at 4:25pm.
He said five passengers were injured while rushing to get off. They could not be identified immediately, he added.
He also said the train operation was not hampered as the station has two lines.
Akhaura Railway Junction’s loco shed in-charge Mohsin Mia said a relief train was on its way to the accident spot.
