A huge amount of toxic mangoes seized at Chiltla village in Gangni upazila was destroyed on Monday night, Agencies report.
An executive magistrate and Gangni upazila assistant commissioner (land) SM Jamal Ahmed seized 65 mounds of mangoes in a raid at the village in evening.
Later, the toxic mangoes were destroyed around 11 pm, in presence of Gangni police station officer-in-charge (OC) Anwar Hossain.
Jamal Ahmed told Banglanews that on information, the mobile court conducted raid in the village and seized the mangoes while carbide was being mixed with the fruits.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the mango trader fled the scene. Later, the mangoes were destroyed at the upazila parishad premise, said Jamal.
Defying the government directions, a group of unscrupulous traders have been trying to make an extra profit by trading toxic mangoes in the area, he said. However, legal actions will be taken those involved in adulterated mango trading, added Jamal Ahmed.
