At least seven people were killed while dozens injured in separate road accidents in two districts on Friday.
In Munshiganj, at least three people were killed after a Dohar-bound bus of Aram Paribahan from Keraniganj plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Mawa highway in Srinagar this noon.
Locals rescued at least 15 passengers. A number of 51 passengers booked their bus tickets, passengers said.
Deputy commissioner, Saiful Hasan Bada confirmed death news of three unidentified people including a woman in the accident but feared for more bodies.
The reason behind the accident could not be known immediately.
The bus slid into the five-foot deep water as the driver lost control over the steering at Sholaghar Battala around 1:30pm, our correspondent reported. Police and fire service were conducting operation to lift the bus from water as of writing this report at 3:40pm.
In another incident at Shameshpur of Srinagar, a man was killed and 19 others injured in an accident on Dhaka-Mawa highway. Hashara highway police camp in-charge sergeant Mohammad Hasan said the accident occurred around 7:30am, when a Mawa-bound bus of Apan Paribahan from Dhaka fell into a roadside ditch after one of its wheels got punctured. The accident left 20 injured, who were sent to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex. An unidentified man succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he said. In another accident at the same district, a biker died on the spot as a pick-up van rammed his motorbike from behind while getting onto a ferry at Shimulia ferry point in Lauhajang around 11:00am. The victim was identified as Ziaul Haq. Mawa police camp in-charge Md Yunus confirmed the incident. Police seized the pick-up van but its driver fled, he said. In Noakhali, two transgender people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a Compressed Natural Gas-run auto-rickshaw on Chaumuhani-Feni road in Begumganj this morning. The identities of the victims could not be known immediately. Quoting locals Chaumuhani police camp sub-inspector Nurul Amin said the accident took place at Durgapur around 10:00am. The CNG-run auto-rickshaw was carrying three transgender people. One of them died on the spot and another on the way to Begumganj 10-beded hospital, said SI Nurul Amin. The injured passenger and the driver of the auto-rickshaw were rushed to Noakhali Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College Hospital, agencies report.
