Defamation suit filed against 70 activists and leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on charge of defamatory speech against prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday evening, reports UNB.
Fatikchhari upazila unit president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Md Jamal Uddin filed the case with Fatikchhari police station, said the station’s officer-in-charge Jakir Hossain.
Bangladesh Chhatra League is the student wing of ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL).
According to the case statement, Giyasuddin Qader made defamatory comments on Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina at a discussion on 37th death anniversary of late president Ziaur Rahman on Tuesday evening.
Qader said, “There was none to read Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un at the death of Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman. The condition of the prime minister will be more dangerous.”
“She has to take the responsibility of the killing in the name of cross fire,” he said. He also described prime minister as a threat for the country.
Soon after the speech, police arrested Abul Mansur, the former convener of upazila Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal.
