Accused ‘commits’ suicide in Ctg police custody

A theft case accused allegedly committed suicide in the police custody of Kotwali Police Station in the port city on Saturday, UNB reports. The deceased was identified as Ishaq Miah, 40, son of Jalal Ahmed of Shikalbaha village in Patia upazila. He used to work as a security guard at the Nandan Kanon office of Zahid Enterprise, a soft drinks distributor. Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Jasim Uddin said police arrested Ishaq from his office on Friday night after the company manager filed a case against him for stealing cash money from the office.

He took his life by hanging himself with his shirt in the bathroom of the police station on Saturday morning, the OC claimed. Later, the body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Meanwhile, victim’s brother Deen Mohammad alleged that police tortured Ishaq to death in the custody. Executive magistrate Rajib-Ul-Hasan who was present while making the viscera report said they found a black mark in his neck, and several injury marks in his forehead and beneath his chest.
