Medical test protesters observed a strike at Dhaka University and blocked Shahbagh intersection today to press for retake of medical admission tests, agencies report.
Blockades were also placed in Sylhet in continuation of protests since September 19, a day after the admission tests were held, alleging fraudulence.
In Dhaka University, the Faculty of Arts building was placed under lock and key this morning. Classes were mostly vacant, but some exams took place.
The programme was declared by Samrajjobadbirodhi Chhatra Oikka and Progotishil Chhatra Jote, two platforms of 14 left-leaning student fronts, yesterday.
Meanwhile, medical aspirants began today’s protest from Central Shaheed Minar. They paraded in Dhaka University campus before blocking Shahbagh around noon.
Traffic at all the eight roads through Shahbagh came to a standstill after the blockade. A section of the students tried to block traffic at Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue around 2:30pm. They were dispersed by police. In Sylhet, protestors blocked Chouhatta road at the heart of the city from noon.
Admission seekers allege test questions were widely leaked the night before medical and dental college admissions were held. Protests were held everywhere in the country. The authorities however is yet to budge in this regard. The government has refuted allegations of question leak.
