Eminent Awami League leader and former Chairman of United Commercial Bank (UCBL) Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury died at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore last night.
He was 70, family sources said here tonight.
The death of Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury cast a pall of gloom in political, social and cultural arena. He left behind his wife, two sons, two daughters, huge political colleagues and admirers and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
Family sources said Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury has been suffering from deadly disease for long and he was admitted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore when his condition worsened.
His first Namaj-e-Janaja will be held at Jamiatul Flah Maidan at 9.30 am tomorrow and he will buried at his family graveyard after second Namaj-e-Janaja to be held at North Satkhania Degree College maidan after Johr prayer at 2 pm tomorrow, family sources added.

Different social-cultural and political organizations on Wednesday expressed their deep shock at the death of Awami League leader and former Chairman of UCBL, Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury.

They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
