Police in a drive arrested a youth for his suspected involvement in the killing of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of Superintendent of Police Babul Akter, on Friday night, UNB reports. The arrestee was identified as Shah Jamal Robin, 28, son of M Shahjahan of Comilla district.
Tipped off, police arrested Robin from Shitaljharna under Bayezid Police Station in the city on Friday night, said Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Iqbal Bahar at a press briefing at his office at noon. “We’re suspecting that Robin is that youth who was seen in the video footage crossing the road and speaking over mobile phone before taking part in the killing mission,” Iqbal added.
Police is interrogating Robin to debunk the mystery of the gruesome killing, said the Commissioner. Earlier on Wednesday, police arrested Abu Nasar, 42, a former activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, for his alleged involvement in the killing Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.
On June 5, unidentified miscreants gunned down Mahmuda Khanam Mitu at the city’s GEC intersection while she went there to drop her son, Mahir Akhter, 7, for a bus to Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College.
