Anti-liberations forces must be resisted: BRUR VC

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi here today said the anti-liberation forces must be resisted to save national independence,BSS reports.

“The spirit of the War of Liberation should be properly nurtured in every sphere of the society to thwart the anti-liberation forces for safeguarding independence of the country,” he said.

Dr Nabi, also a population scientist, made these observations while addressing a discussion arranged at the “Independence Memorial” premises on the campus to celebrate the Independence and National Day- 2017 as the chief guest.

The authorities of BRUR chalked out programmes to celebrate the day with a fresh pledge for building a poverty-free, prosperous and secular Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The programmes included placing wreaths at the “Independence Memorial”, hoisting of the national flag, ‘Swadhinata Shobhayatra’, competitions on different events including sports, prize distribution and cultural functions.

In the morning, the VC, along with the teachers, students and officials on the university, placed wreaths at the “Independence Memorial” at 9:30 am.

Later, wreaths were placed there on behalf of all Faculties, Departments, Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ Association (BRUTA), Officers’ Association, different students’ and other socio-cultural organisations.

Earlier, hundreds of students, teachers, officials and employees of the university led by the VC brought out the ‘Swadhinata Shobhayatra’ in the campus and its surrounding areas at 9 am turning the whole area into a festive place.

Convener of the Independence and National Day Observance Committee Professor Dr Nazmul Haque presided over the post ‘Swadhinata Shobhayatra’ discussion.Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr Saidul Haque, social worker Gulnahar Nabi, President of BRUTA Dr Abu Saleh Mohammad Wadudur Rahman, its General Secretary Golam Rabbani and General Secretary of Officers’ Association Shamsul Hague, addressed among others.

Professor Nabi stressed on spirit of the War of Liberation in every sphere of life to inspire the younger generations in building a secular and developed Bangladesh free from militancy and terrorism and anti-liberation forces.

At the end, he distributed prizes among the winners of different competitions and enjoyed the colourful cultural functions along with hundreds of students, teachers, officials and employees of the university.
