Avijit’s body handed over to DMC after final tributes

The body of Avijit Roy, founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was handed over to Dhaka Medical College for study after people paid their last respect to him on Sunday, reports news agency.
Physicist Ajay Roy, father of the writer and blogger, handed over the body to Shamim Ara, head of anatomy department of the medical college, at around 1:00pm, our correspondent reported.
Earlier, people from all walks of life paid their last homage to Avijit Roy showering petals and placing wreaths on his body at Aparajeya Bangla on Dhaka University campus this morning.
His coffin was taken to Aparajeya Bangla around 10:40am.
On February 26, Avijit Roy was killed while his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya injured seriously as unidentified criminals stabbed them near TSC on the Dhaka University campus on Thursday night.
Avijit Roy came to Bangladesh a few days ago as his two books were published on the occasion of the Ekushey Book Fair.
Meanwhile, Progressive Student Alliance, a platform of leftist student organisations, on Saturday called a strike at Dhaka University for Monday protesting the gruesome murder of the US expatriate blogger.
