Bar council election stayed for three months

WT24 Desk
The High Court on Thursday stayed for three months the election to the Bangladesh Bar Council, the regulatory body of the lawyers.
The bar council election was scheduled to be held across the country on May 27.
The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman also directed the bar council to explain in four weeks why the election schedule announced on March 25 with flawed voter roll, would not be declared illegal.
The bench passed the order after hearing two writ petitions filed by Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond challenging the legality of declaring the election schedule without preparing final voter roll.
Eunus Ali submitted that the law required publishing voter list one month before the election but the bar council was yet to publish the final voter list though election is 7 days left.
