Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists allegedly beat two television journalists at Mirjajangal in Sylhet on Saturday over the spelling of the organisation’s name in a Facebook post, reports UNB.

The victims are Gopal Bardhan, district correspondent of Independent TV, its cameraperson Madhab Karmakar.

Madhab said ruling Awami League’s student wing BCL leaders Rajesh and his men, belonging to Tushar group, assaulted them and tried to snatch their camera in front of Nimbark Ashram at noon.

Local journalists took them to Osmani Medical College Hospital, he said.

The cameraperson also said his Facebook account has been hacked and a post was made from there about the spelling of Chhatra League.

Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Gausul Hossain said police visited the spot. “Legal action will be taken if any written complaint is lodged,” he said.
