A BGB man has been picked up for scalding his stepmother by acid after breaking into the office of an NGO in Netrokona. The 45-year-old Nasima Akhter Tahera, a caretaker of Netrokona Swabolombi Unnayan Samiti’s housing project, was attacked around 11:30pm on Sunday, Netrokona Model Police Station OC Masudul Alam said. Police raided Nagra Anandabazar area of the municipality at midnight and picked up her husband Suruj Mia, 68, and stepson Jahangir Firoz Khokan, 28.
He added that Khokan is a Lance Nayek of the border force’s 26th battalion and had come home on leave. Locals told the police that Nasima stayed at the office at night. Her husband lived at Anandabazar with his second wife. They have a longstanding family dispute. “Khokhan entered the office, threw acid at his stepmother and fled. The others in the office took Nasima to the hospital. Khokan and his father were picked up,” the official added.
Nasima’s son, Liton Mia, has filed a case over the attack. The detainees were shown arrested in the case and would be sent to court, the official said. She has been admitted to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital, agency reports.
