BGP picks up five Bangladeshi fishermen

Myanmar border guard police (BGP) picked up five Bangladeshi fishermen from Naf river in the Hoakong Unchiprang Zimmongkhali area in Teknaf on Saturday morning, Agencies report.

Another Bangladeshi fisherman, Mohammad Islam, 25, was injured in BGP firing during the incident.

The five abducted fishermen are Azizullah, Yaar Mohammad, Shah Alam, Md Rafiq abd Petan Ali from Kanchanpara area of Hoakong union in Teknaf upazila.

According to the families of the victims, the fishermen went fishing in Zimmongkhali of Naf river on Saturday morning. At one stage, they came under BGP firing. BGP men came in a trawler and picked up five of them.

Nur Mohammad Anowari, the UP chairman of Hoakong union parishad, confirmed the incident.

Mohammad Islam has been admitted into MSF Holland Hospital. BGB will officially ask to return the rest of the fishermen.

SM Ariful Islam of BGB Teknaf-2 told Prothom Alo, Bangladesh Border Guard is preparing to send a letter to the Myanmar authorities protesting the incident. They are also trying to contact BGP over phone.
