BNP will stage countrywide demonstrations on Friday protesting the sentence its chairperson Khaleda Zia had been handed in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

As part of their two-day demonstration programme, party leaders and activists will stage demonstrations across the country after Jumma prayers, reports UNB.

Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday made the announcement immediately after the verdict.

Amid heightening tensions and various speculations, a special court on Thursday convicted the former prime minister and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the much-talked-about Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
