Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, BNP’s youth wing, on Saturday staged a demonstration in the city protesting the submission of a chargesheet against party chairperson Khaleda Zia, besides 77 others in an arson attack case in Comilla, Agencies report.
Leaders and activists of Jubo Dal, led by its president Saiful Islam Nirob and general secretary Sultan Salahuddin, brought out a procession in the city’s Bijoynagar area and demonstrated there.
They chanted various slogans demanding the government withdraw all the ‘false’ cases filed against Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman, the party’s senior vice chairman.
Jubo Dal has been protesting through a series of similar programmes Mohammad Ibrahim, sub-inspector of Chouddagram Police Station, placed a chargesheet against Khaleda and 77 others to the district court of Comilla last Monday, March 6.
It started with the BNP-minded youth at all upazilas and thanas on Wednesday. The next day (Thursday) Jubo Dal activists were out in force in all the district towns.
Following a break on Friday for weekly holiday, Jubo Dal resumed the programme today, bringing it to the capital.
On February 3, 2015 – the height of the BNP’s three-month anti-government movement centering the first anniversary of the Jan 5, 2014 election – eight people were burned to death when a group of miscreants hurled a ‘petrol bomb’ at an Icon Paribahan bus, setting it on fire.
The attack occurred on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Jagamohonpur in Chouddagram upazila. Police filed a case against 56 identified and 15/20 unidentified people in this connection.
