A 9-year-old Colorado boy’s three-minute presentation to his local town board convinced officials to legalize snowball fighting in the municipality.

Dane Best, 9, spoke Monday night at a meeting of the Severance Town Board and argued for amending an ordinance that outlaws the throwing of all “missiles,” which include snowballs.

“The children of Severance want the opportunity to have a snowball fight like the rest of the world,” Best told the board. “The law was created many years ago. Today’s kids need a reason to play outside.”

Officials said the ordinance hadn’t been enforced in many years. Best learned about the old law during a recent school field trip to Town Hall.

“I asked my mom if I could [ask council to change the law], and she called town hall. And, she told me I had to make a speech,” Best told KCNC-TV.

Mayor Don McLeod joined Best and his little brother, Dax, 4, to throw the first legal snowballs in the town’s history after the end of the Town Board meeting.
