THESE six women had plenty to celebrate after losing 25 stone between them, The Sun reports. So they decided to do it in the nude. The brave ladies – whose ages range from 27 to 70 – stripped off for a naked photoshoot for the latest Weight Watchers magazine.
The six models – Nikki, Elaine, Shelly, Nicola, Ruth and Nikki – star in the first ever Naked Issue which aims to promote positive body image, The biggest loser of the group 37-year-old Shelly Harrison who shed over six stone while the rest of the women lost between 2st and 5st 4lbs each.
The diet company launched the issue after a survey of 2000 men and women found some shocking results. It found that 42 per cent of women have NEVER felt comfortable naked with most saying that magazine images and celebrities made them feel worse.
Among the men, 15 per cent felt pressured by magazine images. Incredibly, a massive 60 per cent of British women and over a third of British men avoid looking at themselves in the mirror when undressing.
The dislike of our own bodies is having a negative effect on our sex lives – with over two thirds saying they were ashamed of their bodies and more than a quarter only having sex with the lights off – or even avoiding it completely.
Over a third – 38 per cent – said that they thought their partner wouldn’t find them attractive if they saw them naked. Helen Renshaw, Editor of Weight Watchers magazine, said: “It is worrying that so many people feel unhappy or ashamed of their bodies.
“We hope that showing and celebrating healthy, strong, ‘real’ bodies will inspire people to feel more confident about their own body shape.” Helen chose to run the shoot in September when mags usually run influential fashion issues.
She added: “We love fashion as much as the next person, but what is more interesting than cloths is what is going on in our heads – and how we feel about our bodies.” The October issue of Weight Watchers magazine will feature six of their male losers in a naked shoot.
