District Bus and Truck Workers Union went on an indefinite transport strike on Chuadanga-Meherpur highway on Wednesday protesting a police assault on two workers, agencies reports.
General secretary of the union Ripon Mandol said bus workers and easy-bike workers locked into an altercation over a trifling matter in Hatikata Mor area around 10am. At one stage, a team of police rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation.
However, the police personnel beat two bus workers at that time, alleged Ripon. After hearing the news, bus workers blocked Chuadanga-Meherpur highway at Daulatdiar area by placing buses on the road randomly.
The strike will continue for an indefinite period until the administration take any action against the police personnel involved in the assault, said the union leader. Officer-in charge of Sadar Police Station Saiful Islam said a meeting is underway to solve this problem.
