Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) on Monday announced a balanced budget of TK 1632.78 crore for 2015-2016 fiscal with a special emphasis on infrastructural development and removal of water logging of the port city. Announcing the budget in presence of CCC ward councilors, officials and journalists at KB Abdus Sattar auditorium of CCC, the mayor A Z M Nasir Uddin said no new tax has been imposed in the budget and it is a development-oriented one aiming at providing better civic amenities to the city dwellers.
The mayor in his budget speech said the proposed budget has given special emphasis on infrastructure developments, education and health sectors and removal of water logging, the major problem for the city dwellers.
Speaking at the function the city mayor announced that CCC has taken up a massive digging up of channel from Bahaddarhat to Karnaphuli River at a cost of TK 326.84 crore and 81 thousand for digging a three kilometer long canal in order to remove water logging in the city.
He also said CCC has taken up two other projects at a cost of TK 200 crore for the construction of carpeting of different routes of CCC under AFSOT plan, garbage dumping sanitary landfill, garbage transfer stations and food testing laboratory. Of the total budget, TK 621.68 crore has been earmarked from the own fund of CCC while TK 1011.10 crore would be available from different development grants.
In reply to a question, city Mayor said the proposed budget is nearly practical but not ambitious. The mayor also announced TK 436 crore 86 lakh 70 thousand as revised budget for the 2014-15 fiscal, agencies report.
