Cop sued for ‘killing’ brother-in-law

A case was filed against a sub-inspector of police on Thursday for his alleged involvement in the killing of his brother-in-law at Doulatpur in the district on Tuesday, UNB reports.

The accused was identified as AHM Mahe Alam, SI of Mohammadia Bazar police investigation center in Noakhali district and brother in law of the victim Giasuddin. He is the elder brother of the wife of the deceased Sajeda Begum.

Giasuddin’s brother Kabir Hossain claimed Mahe Alam purchased a piece of land from Gias Uddin a landlord and owner of the shop in the area on condition of giving money a few days later.

Mahe Alam and Sajeda beat Gias and tied him up after Gias demanded the due. At one stage, the alleged hanged Gias with the ceiling fan of his house.

Later, next-door neighbors recovered the body.

Mahe Alam’s wife Khodeja Alam claimed being a mentally-challenged man, Gias Uddin used to involve in brawls with his wife Sajeda. Following the feud, Sajeda gave her husband a good beating and finally tied his hands and legs.

Later, Gias hanged himself from the ceiling, according to her version.

Confirming the death incident, investigation officer of the case SI Shahidul Islam said it will become clear whether this was a killing or suicide after investigation process ends.
