Bangladesh and Hungary will exchange visits by high-level business delegations within four months to find out trade and investment opportunities between the two countries as a follow up of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tour to Budapest, BSS reports.

“A high-level buying and investment business delegation from Bangladesh will go to Hungary within three months and a Hungarian business delegation will visit Bangladesh within four months,” said Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Abdul Matlub Ahmad.

Matlub also expected that the Hungarian Prime Minister will visit Bangladesh with a business delegation as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina invited him to visit Bangladesh for further strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries.

“We can find out potential sectors to go for joint venture investment,” he added.  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, accompanied by LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud and a high-level business delegation, visited Hungary from November 27 to 30.

Terming Hungary as the new horizon of potentials for the country, Matlub said during the visit, Hungary proposed to Bangladesh to export Bangladeshi products by opening a warehouse there as the country has border with seven countries.  “Bangladesh can easily take the opportunities as Hungary has border with Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria,” he added.

Mentioning the 15-20 million dollar business relations between the two countries as insufficient, the trade apex body chief said, “Our trade volume is low as we did never go to Hungary. We cordially thank Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for taking us (businessmen) to Hungary for the first time.”

Matlub said the two countries signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in presence of the Bangladesh and Hungarian premiers. “We can establish relations with Hungary in various sectors,” he said, adding that Bangladesh and Hungary have agreed to work on new areas, including water resource management, agriculture apart from environment for expansion of trade and investment.

He said FBCCI and Hungary Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a Bangladesh and Hungary Business Forum with the participation of Bangladesh and Hungary business teams. The two prime ministers also took part in the forum, he added. He said the Bangladesh business delegation upheld the trade and investment opportunities of Bangladesh in front of the Hungarian businesspeople.

“The Hungarian businessmen showed keen interest to invest in the country’s various sectors including power, oil, gas and LNG, he added.
