A Dhaka court has acquitted domestic help Khadija Akter Shumi from charges of accessory to murder for aiding Oishee Rahman to kill her parents, police inspector father Mahfuzur Rahman and mother Swapna Rahman, in Dhaka about four-and-half years ago, Agencies report.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Al Mamun announced the verdict in the well-known case on Sunday. Shumi, 16, was overjoyed to hear the verdict. She was only 11-year-old at the time.
“I did not help her. I had said before I was not at fault. They could have ended the trial earlier.”
The High Court commuted the death sentence awarded by a trial court to Oishee to life in prison last year after a petition challenging the verdict.
The underage house help was tried by a juvenile court.
