Draft ‘Online Media Policy’ discussed

A meeting for formulating the first draft of the “National Online Mass Media Policy” was organized by the Information Ministry today at the Secretariat, agencies report.

The meeting was conducted by the Secretary of the Information Ministry, Mortuza Ahmed. Others who attended the meeting included Law Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Md Zahirul Haq, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Ihsanul Karim, Principal Information Officer Tasir Ahmed, Director General of Bangladesh Betar Akhtaruddin Ahmed, Director General of Bangladesh Television Abdul Mannan, Additional Secretary of Information Ministry A S M Mahbubul Alam, Director General of Bangladesh Film Archives Dr Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, Director General of Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Shah Alamgir, Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, Additional Secretary (Broadcasting), Information Ministry, Shahjadi Anjuman Ara, Director General of Films and Publications Md Liakat Ali Khan, Editor of Daily Samakal Golam Sarwar, Editor of Daily Prothom Alo Matiur Rahman, Editor of Daily Star Mahfuz Anam, Executive Director, Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB), Iftekharuzzaman, ICT expert Mostafa Jabbar, Joint Secretaries of Information Ministry, Md Nurul Islam, Md Ibrahim Khalil and Gazi Md Ali Akbar, Secretary, Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Md Sarwar Alam, Convener of Bangladesh Online Television Association Mashiur Rahman and General Secretary of Bangladesh Online Media Association A K Shariful Islam Khan participated in the deliberations.

The draft “National Online Mass Media Policy-2015” was posted by the Information Ministry on its website on July 21, 2015 for soliciting public opinion.  Initially the timeframe for submitting suggestions was August 12, 2015 but it was later extended to September 15, 2015. Today’s meeting was held with individuals and organizations who had sent in their opinions.
