Dhaka University (DU) today celebrated 45th Victory Day amid huge enthusiasm and festivity, BSS reports. The programmes included hoisting of national flag at main buildings of the university including Vice-Chancellor’s (VC’s) Bhaban at 6.15 am.
Students, teachers, officers and employees of the university gathered at the Aparajeya Bangla at 6.30 to proceed towards National Memorial at Savar. Led by VC Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, teachers, students, officers and employees placed wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar.
Marking the day, Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), Arts Faculty building and Curzon Hall were illuminated. Voluntary blood donation programme took place at the TSC. Besides, screening of films, photo exhibitions and documentary on Liberation War is being organised at different dormitories.
DU and cultural organisation Chhayanaut jointly organised “Bijoy Utsab” (Victory Festival) at 3.50 pm at the university’s central playground. Some 4,000 singers of Chhayanaut, DU Music Department and other organisations across the country took part in the chorus patriotic songs including the national anthem “Amar Sonar Bangla, Ami Tomai Valobashi.”
Special prayers were held at university central mosque and different dormitory mosques after Zohr prayers. DU Jagannath Hall also offered prayers at its Upasanaloy seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs.
Another cultural function will take place at the TSC auditorium at 6.30 pm today.
