BD businessmen demand
Bangladeshi businessmen today demanded to prioritize them in getting Chinese and Hong Kong visas as well as providing special discount for participating in trade fairs in those countries, reports news agencies.
They placed the demand at a seminar tiled “Hong Kong: Sourcing and Distribution Hub in Asia” organized by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in a city hotel.
Mahbubur Rahman, President of International Chamber of Commerce-Bangladesh (ICC-B) was present as the Chief Guest.
Shubhasish Bose, Vice Chairman of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Dannie Chiu, Regional Director, Southeast Asia of HKTDC and Rajesh Bhagat, Consultant, HKTDC were also present during the seminar with DCCI President Hossain Khaled in the Chair.
Mentioning that Bangladesh and Hong Kong are located in suitable places geographically, Mahbubur Rahman urged the Hong Kong businessmen to invest in infrastructure sector of Bangladesh under the PPP project.
He said DCCI and HKTDC can work together to explore new market and business partners in Hong Kong.
Citing Hong Kong as the world’s eighth largest economy and eighth largest banking centre in 2014, Hossain Khaled said in 2013-14 total imports from Hong Kong were worth $762.88 million against the export receipts of $ 280.51 million.
The DCCI President invited the businessmen of Hong Kong to invest in textile, frozen foods, leather goods, jute and jute goods, infrastructures and shipbuilding sector.
Shubhasish Bose said Bangladesh government is giving various incentives and packages to the foreign investors.
Inviting Hong Kong investors to invest in Bangladesh utilizing these incentives, he said EPB will extend its support to businessmen of both the countries.
Dannie Chiu said HKTDC has established 40 regional offices world-wide to promote businesses of Hong Kong.
She said Hong Kong’s businessmen consider Bangladesh a potential investment destination for relocating their RMG, textile, footwear and leather goods industry.
Dannie said Bangladeshi businessmen can find their business partners in doing joint ventures in Hong Kong.
Rajesh Bhagat said HKTDC regularly organize trade fairs like houseware, home textile, ICT and food fair.
