Educational institutions across the country will form human chains on October 18 protesting the recent violence against women, Agencies report. The Ministry of Education will arrange the programme, which will be held at all the institutions’ respective premises for 15 minutes starting 11:00am.
Besides, the ministry will also arrange a meeting in all educational institutions on October 20. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the programme at a press briefing in Krishibid Institution Bangladesh at Khamar Bari in the city’s Farmgate area on Saturday morning.
“A committee will be formed to help ensuring protection of female students, giving warning to suspicious males and, if required, handing them over to law enforcers,” the minister said. He also said that the criminals who are carrying out these activities are enemies of the society. They are beasts in the names of human beings.
The press briefing was held following the recent attack on Khadiza, a 23-year-old daughter of Masuk Miah of Biswanath upazila in Sylhet who was hacked by Badrul on her way back home from college after she spurned his proposal for having an affair with him.
