Follow ideology of Pritilata Waddedar; Speakers tell discussion

Speakers at a discussion today called upon the young generation to take a lesson from the struggling life and works of Pritilata Waddedar, who embraced martyrdom as first female revolutionary nationalist in the anti-British movement, Agencies report.

“Pritilata is a great part of our history. Whenever we talk about independence movement, struggling life of Pritilata comes,” Advocate Sultana Kamal, former adviser to a caretaker government told a discussion.

Bengali daily Bhorer Kagoj and Pritilata Trust at Jatiya Press Club organized the discussion at Jatiya Press Club by here coinciding with the 106th birth anniversary of Waddedar.

Chaired by Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta, the function was addressed by former adviser to a caretaker government Advocate Sultana Kamal, language veteran Rawshan Ara Bachchu, Pritilata Trust Chairman Pankaj Chakrabarty, Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Department Professor Gitiara Nasreen and Nari Sangbadik Kendro President Nasimun Ara Haque Minu, among others.

Kamal called for instilling the ideology of Pritilata into young generation to build a non-communal country. Rawshan Ara said they took part in the Language Movement in 1952 imbued with the spirit of revolutionists like Pritilata.

She said Pritilata will act as an inspiration to the youths for decades after decades. The speakers also demanded observing the birth and death anniversary of Pritilata nationally.

Earlier, the function began with the lighting of candles to pay homage to the memories of Pritilata while children of ‘Khelaghar’ performed music. Pritilata was born in a middle-class Vaidya-Brahmin family on 5 May 1911 in Dhalghat village in Patiya upazila of Chittagong.
