At least seven people died today in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj in a bus-microbus collision in continuation of the recent deaths on highways, . About 13 others were injured in the incident took place in Bhatipara area of Dhaka-Khulna highway around 11:00am, reports a correspondent from Faridpur. All the victims were passengers of the microbus, while, only one of them could be identified as Babu Mia, 45, son of Bulu Mia from Narail.
The victims include three women, Mizanur Rahman, an inspector of Kashiani Police Station, said. One of them died on the spot while the others succumbed at Kashiani Upazila Health Complex. A Benapole-bound Ashik Sagar Paribahan bus collided head on with a microbus headed for Dhaka, he said. “The injured are being treated at Kashiani Upazila Health Complex.”
Yesterday, at least 17 lives were lost on highways of different districts, taking the death toll across Bangladesh to over 100 in the last eight days, agencies report..
