CRIMINALS are using internet shopping to smuggle guns into Britain – prompting fears that firearms could fall into terrorists’ hands. Cop chiefs warn today weapons arriving through the “fast parcel system” are becoming increasingly common. Dave Thompson, Chief Constable of West Midlands Police, said crooks are finding new ways to get firearms into the country – including using the online postal system to send them through in small parts.
Guns and ammunition coming in from Germany and Balkan countries are causing the most concern. Mr Thompson, who has headed up a 2010 review of National Counter Terrorism, added: “We can’t safeguard ourselves by relying on criminals who might have access to firearms to have benign intent.”
