Anti-government protesters have exploded two handmade bombs at Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) seconds after a car carrying a flag crossed the street in front of it,reports agency.
No one was reported injured in the incident that happened during the BNP general strike, Shahbagh Police Station OC Sirajul Islam sai
Two people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the blasts, he said.
Witnesses said a car carrying a flag crossed the street in front of the centre leading to Bangla Academy around 1:45pm.
Two bombs were exploded within a minute, they said.
People in the TSC caught two people from the spot and handed them over to the police.
They claimed they were students of the university and children of freedom fighters, the OC said.
Both were brought to the police station and interrogated.
Generally, cars of ministers and equivalent officials carry national flags. The cars of justices carry flags of the Supreme Court.
No one could confirm which flag the car was flying.
The ongoing blockade and strikes of the BNP and its allies, that began on Jan 5, have been marked by large scale arson on vehicles and bombings.
At least 50 people have been killed in the violence.
