You’ve heard of kissing a frog and hoping it turns into a princess, The Sun reports. But no-one has ever explained what might happen if you decided to take a relationship with a pond-dweller to the next level.

Now a series of graphic pictures has exposed the grim reality of toad’s love lives, warts and all. A nature photographer has captured astonishing images of three horny toads engaged in a threesome which can truly be described as mucky – because it took place in a mud pit.

The pond-ographic snaps were taken in Thuringia, Germany, and show two male frogs and a female involved in a very unorthodox sex act. This story began when a happy toady couple were enjoying a quiet romp by the side of a pond, when suddenly their lovemaking was interrupted by an amorous interloper.

The croaker tried to muscle in on the action, getting his love rival in a headlock and trying to drag him off his bemused partner. But enjoying the attention of two men didn’t do much for our female heroine, who left her two would-be lovers to duke it out before going and getting jiggy with a totally different partner.

The moral of the story? Kiss someone else’s toad and you’ll end up alone, muddy and miserable.
