A DOMESTIC violence victim is struggling to pay a £6k dental bill to replace teeth that her jealous ex-boyfriend punched out during a malicious revenge assault, The Sun reports. Shannon Surch, 21, from Tamworth, Staffordshire, needs of reconstructive surgery after her ex Jamie Boughton, 32, attacked her in April as punishment for texting his new girlfriend.
Her two front teeth were shattered in the brutal incident that saw Boughton repeatedly hit Shannon in the face. Shannon said: “It’s absolutely disgusting. Jamie has completely destroyed my life. “I still struggle to eat solid foods, and I have to wear dentures like an old lady. “I lost my job because of all the time I spent in hospital, and while I’m lucky to have got a new one, my confidence is in tatters.”
Boughton also kicked his own sister, Danielle Boughton, 35, in the head during the frenzy. Leicester Crown Court sentenced the thug to 18 months in prison for harrassment, actual bodily harm against Shannon and common assault against Danielle, in September. However he wasn’t ordered to pay any compensation or damages so the victim was left to foot the dentistry bill.
After serving just two months of his sentence the attacker was released in November, following the review of time spent on remand. The ex-lovers were initially introduced by Boughton’s sister Danielle at the beginning of 2015. The relationship ended after a couple of months due to Boughton’s paranoid behaviour.
Shannon said: “He was constantly accusing me of sleeping with other men, plus he’d disappear for hours on end, claiming he was visiting his kids from a previous relationship. “I wasn’t going to put up with it, so I told him it was over. He got back with his ex-girlfriend, and I thought that was the end of it.” “I just couldn’t get rid of him. After I’d repeatedly asked Jamie to leave me alone, I got fed up and texted his new girlfriend to tell her to ask him to delete my number.”
Jamie bombarded Shannon with messages that escalated in agression, from pleading and urging her to meet up with him to increasingly more threatening. Among these aggressive messages was “you’re all dead and it’s the end of your world”. On the 6 April 2015 Jamie hopped over Shannon’s garden fence where she was smoking a cigarette and trapped her in the kitchen and proceeded to knock out her teeth before making a quick exit.
Danielle was able to escape and call an ambulance after being forced away by her brother, and Shannon was taken to Queen’s Hospital in Burton-upon-Trent. The victim was forced to give up her job due to constant trips to the hospital and abscesses lining her mouth. Despite the disturbing event Shannon stayed positive: “I feel like he’s just got away with it. He’s been let out, whilst every time I look in the mirror I am reminded of what he did to me.
“I don’t know how I’m ever going to be able to afford to replace them. In the meantime, I’ve just got temporary dentures that make me feel like an old lady. “But I won’t let what Jamie did stop me from living my life. I’m sharing my story to let other women out there know that they can recover after an attack like this.
“Jamie might have taken my teeth, but he won’t take my life from me.”
