THIS is the heart-stopping moment a plane comes in to land after having lost its front wheels, The Sun reports. The aircraft, a Fokker-100 that belongs to the company Bek Air, had been travelling from the city of Kyzylorda in south Kazakhstan to the capital of Astana. However when it arrived above its destination, the pilot realised that the front landing gear was not lowering.
As it is landing, the plane can be seen with its nose dipping onto the ground and careering across the runway on its nose before grinding to a stop. The plane landed eventually one hour late, and none of the passengers were injured. On total the plane had 116 passengers, and 5 members of staff. It also caused extensive delays at the airport while the foam was deployed and then cleared up together with the now damaged plane.
Capitan Dmitry Rodin said although it was something they had trained for, he had never heard of anybody actually having to use the technique in 35 years of flying experience. The captain said: “I simply followed the book, and fortunately it worked out.”
A statement on the Facebook page of country’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Asset Issekeshev, said: “Thank God nobody got hurt. The last passengers left after they could take their hand luggage from the cabin of the aircraft.”
He noted: “I would like to point out the professionalism and skill of the crew, especially the captain, cannot be praised enough and all of them will be given a special award for their bravery.”
