Interns at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) withdrew their indefinite strike on Thursday morning considering patients’ sufferings.
Dr Mosaddeq Hossain, convener of Intern Doctors Association, SBMCH, said they withdrew the strike at 9 in the morning. On Tuesday, a man named Sirajul Islam Chunnu was admitted to the hospital with critical injuries sustained in a road accident.
Later, an altercation took place between Dr Palash and Sirajul’s relatives as he asked them to go outside the ward clearing space for the sake of the patient’s treatment.
And at one stage, the patient’s relatives allegedly assaulted Dr Palash. As the news spread, some fellows of Dr Palash rushed in and attacked the patient’s relatives.
On information, a team of police came in and to quell the unrest made a swoop on a doctor that triggered a triangular clash, leaving seven people injured around 10:30 pm.
Protesting the incident, the interns abstained from discharging duties demanding punishment of those responsible for the clash.
