THE journalist arrested for Belgian terror attacks, and widely reported to be The Man in White, has been released by Belgian police due to lack of evidence, agencies report. Faycal Cheffou, 35, was charged with the “terrorist murder” of 35 people killed in the suicide bombings.
It was thought he was the third man in CCTV footage, showing the bombers strolling through Zaventem Airport moments before the deadly attack. But Belgian Police today said there was not enough evidence to hold him. A statement released by prosecutors read: “The indications that led to the arrest of Faycal C were not substantiated by the ongoing inquiry.
“As a result, the subject has been released by the examining magistrate.” So far he has been the only suspect charged for the attacks. Police have since re-released the CCTV footage of the attackers in a new push for evidence.
It has prompted speculation that the Man in White may still be on the loose.
