A Jubo League leader was murdered in Natore on Wednesday, police said, Agencies report.
Zaharul Islam, 36, came under attack in front of the North Bengal Sugar Mill gate in Bahadipur. The attack left a second man injured.
“The organisational secretary of the local Jubo League was standing in front of the gate,” said Lalpur Police Station OC Nazrul Islam.
At the time, his opponent, Gopalpur Municipality Councillor Masud Rana, Jubo League activist Manju and 10 other men attacked him with sharp weapons, according to the police.
“The attackers severed the veins in Zaharul’s hands and legs. They also slashed his head multiple times. The locals took him to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex and he was later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he died,” said Nazrul.
The attackers also injured his friend Pranta Hossain. He was declared safe at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital. Councillor Masud Rana could not be reached for comment over the phone.
OC Nazrul said, “The police have inspected the crime scene. The murder could be the result of a conflict. Legal action will be taken if charges are laid.”
