Residents of Bhalishri village in Jagannathpur upazila have been passing sleepless nights as the Kushiara River is eating up their homesteads, croplands and other structures, Agencies report.
The erosion by the river has already devoured many dwelling houses, two mosques, two private schools, a madrasah and a graveyard at Bhalishri village on the south bank of the river.
Besides, the river is galloping the Raniganj-Rouail road, the only road connecting Noagaon, Alampur and Bhalishri villages under Raniganj union as the erosion has taken a serious turn along the river bank near the house of Aksir Miah at Bhalishri.
Besides, 3-5 roads under the union are at risk of disappearing into the gorge of the river. Locals said their entire village will get wiped out off the map if the erosion is not stopped right now.
