LINDSAY LOHAN caused a huge stir when she was pictured carrying a Koran on the first day of her community service at a New York kids’ centre, The Sun reports.
The images fuelled worldwide speculation that the Catholic-born actress had converted to Islam, but she chose to remain silent on the matter when it hit headlines last year.
Now, speaking about the photographs for the first time, Lindsay has confirmed she is studying the religion. In an exclusive interview, she told me: “I’m a very spiritual person and I’m really open to learning.
“America has portrayed holding a Koran in such a different way to what it actually is. “We all believe in something and at the end of the day it all ties to a god or a spiritual adviser.” Lindsay isn’t alone in her change of beliefs — her little sister ALI LOHAN has turned to Buddhism.
She said: “We all have a similar belief in whatever it may be personally. “My sister is Buddhist but she is still interested in learning other things from me. It’s good to be open-minded.” If Lindsay decides to take the next step and fully convert to Islam she would not be the first A-lister to do so.
Celebs including JANET JACKSON, MIKE TYSON, CAT STEVENS, JEMIMA KHAN and CASSIUS CLAY have all previously chosen to become Muslims. Lindsay first has to get through the lengthy holy book, saying: “I’m not done reading it. Do you know how long that would take? It takes so long.”
Lindsay has experienced her share of troubles over the years but has turned her life around by embracing her spiritual side. The Mean Girls star, who served 14 days in prison for drink-driving in 2010, even put it to good use after getting edgy when telly host JONATHAN ROSS quizzed her on life behind bars.
She revealed: “It all comes down to meditation for me. I do this thing called tapping. “I used it when I did The Jonathan Ross Show because he was going down the jail route. I was getting uncomfortable so had to do it.
“I can hear every conversation in a room. I hear everything and I notice everything so I have to teach myself to shut my brain off.” Lindsay has been batting away rumours she is engaged to Russian business heir Egor Tarabasov.
If she does eventually walk down the aisle, her venue of choice is unlikely to be a church.
IN the past six months she has flogged 17million albums, won four Brits and sold out 105 arena shows around the world. But still not everyone is on the ADELE bandwagon.
The nominations for this year’s Ivor Novello Awards caused a major shock yesterday as she was snubbed, despite her blockbuster comeback.
Adele missed out in every category voted for by her fellow songwriters. Stars including ED SHEERAN, his protege JAMIE LAWSON and Irish folk band VILLAGERS got nods, as did grime hero SKEPTA following his controversial Brits exclusion.
Adele’s huge single Hello also lost out to JAMES BAY, JESS GLYNNE and YEARS & YEARS for Most Perfor- med Work due to its late release in November.
However Adele, who won the Songwriter of the Year prize in 2012, could win it again at the May 19 bash, as it is chosen on the day by an Ivors panel. Host PAUL GAMBACCINI said: “It does not mean she won’t be awarded. She may still be honoured in categories that are in the Academy’s gift.”
Hugo cleans up his act
MADE in Chelsea star MILLIE MACKINTOSH is back with former co-star HUGO TAYLOR – and cleansing the playboy of his sins.
Millie ordered him to spend five days last week at her favourite health retreat, The Body Camp Ibiza, while she partied at Coachella in California. A source said: “He did a 20km hike, weights and boxing and was on a strict diet. No alcohol was allowed and it was early to bed, up at crack of dawn.” The Sun on Sunday told in March how Millie and Hugo were back on, as they were spotted kissing in Dubai just weeks after her split from rapper husband PROFESSOR GREEN.
The pair first dated in 2011 but split after he cheated with her pal and former co-star ROSIE FORTESCUE. She then threw champagne in his face during a row captured on the TV series.
If they stick to juicing, no booze will be wasted if history repeats.
Back in the zone
RONAN KEATING wants to follow TAKE THAT’s lead with a 25th anniversary tour. He clearly wants to ramp up the old rivalries, with BOYZONE hitting the road around the same time as GARY BARLOW and Co towards the end of 2017.
He said: “It would be crazy for us not to mark it, 25 years is a huge milestone. Whether we do some shows or some sort of album.” Ronan has also backed BOYZLIFE, the Boyzone/WESTLIFE mash-up put together by KEITH DUFFY and BRIAN McFADDEN.
He said: “It is their little concept and that is cool.” Slightly patronising using the word “little”, mind.
Bieb no longer on Beeb
REGULAR doses of BEYONCE, JUSTIN BIEBER and MEGHAN TRAINOR could be disappearing from the airwaves of Radio 1 – in the interests of the BBC being more “distinctive”.
Overseas stars including those from the States face being hauled off the station to make way for new British acts as part of the BBC’s attempts to “avoid too much duplication”.
It’s a huge change for Radio 1 as foreign pop stars currently dominate their playlist –or their Craylist as I’ve dubbed it due to their ageist mentality. Out of 15 songs on this week’s A-list, nine are by artists from either America, Australia or Canada.
It’s good news for the BBC’s commercial rivals such as Capital and Radio X. I just hope the Beeb don’t forget that mainstream British pop music needs a place, too.
I’ve still not forgiven them for refusing to play LA ROUX last year.
ONLY DWAYNE “THE ROCK” JOHNSON could make lifting a man over his shoulders look this easy. The former wrestler showed no fear on the set of the Baywatch reboot – proving he’s still got what it takes by rescuing a man from a burning boat.
I just hope old habits didn’t kick in – throwing the extra on the ground with his trademark “People’s Elbow” finishing move.
