A man, who suffered injuries during a clash between two groups of villagers in Sarail upazila on September 26, died at his residence on Friday, agencies report. The deceased was identified as Mannar Ali, 55, a resident of Chunta village in the upazila. Police said the clash erupted following an altercation between supporters of Hira Miah Master and Safar Ali during a friendly football match at Chuta AC Academy ground on September 26.
Mannar sustained injuries as he tried to stop the clash. He was admitted to Sadar Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital for better treatment. But he was taken back to the district Sadar Hospital as his physical condition did not improve. His family members took him to the house on October 28 from the hospital seeing no improvement.
Mannar breathed his last at his house around 10am on Friday, 34 days into the incident. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station M Ali Arshad. Mannar’s son Malek Miah filed a case against eight people on the day of clash.
However, the accused went into hiding after hearing the news of Mannar’s death.
