STARS from Manchester United and Coronation Street bring some Christmas cheer as they dish out presents to patients on a surprise visit to a hospital, The Sun reports. Footie aces including Bastian Schweinsteiger, Chris Smalling and Michael Carrick posed for pictures with youngsters and their relatives – whilst Corrie actors took a break from filming on the cobbles to hand out mince pies to patients.
Coronation Street heart-throb Ryan Thomas and fellow actors Bruno Langley and Sue Cleaver all popped into the Christie NHS hospital in Manchester. Actress Sally Dynevor – who plays Sally Webster in the hit soap – was also on hand to bring a smile to the faces of cancer patients at the clinic.
Heartwarming pictures showed footie aces signing shirts and handing out presents as the Man U stars took time out from training to spread some festive cheer on the annual trip. Team captain Wayne Rooney visited nearby Francis House Children’s Hospice along with fellow star Marouane Fellaini.
Speaking about the trip, he said: “It’s really important to do this when there are sick kids and children need a lift at Christmas time. “I know how tough it can be for them but places like Francis House can maybe give the parents a bit of respite.
“Hopefully we’ve helped the children and parents and cheered them up a little bit.” Other players including Juan Mata also paid a trip to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
