Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted ‘local cautionary signal no. three (r) three’ as the low pressure area over West Bengal and adjoining Bihar area now lies over Uttar Prodesh and adjoining Bihar area as a well marked low, agencies report. Its associated trough extends to Northwest Bay.
Under its influence deep convection is continuing over the North Bay and adjoining areas, said Met office. Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Under the influence of heavy rain and new moon, low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirozpur, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by tidal surge of 2-3 feet height above normal astronomical tide.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to keep close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
