CHELSEA signed him to save their season but party-loving ladies’ man Alexandre Pato is as much of a player off the pitch as he is on it, The Sun reports. The Brazilian striker may have lost his eye for goal in recent years but with actresses, models and a prime minister’s daughter on his personal scoresheet, his touch has clearly not deserted him.
The 26-year-old, who is yet to make his debut for the Blues, once admitted: “I like having girlfriends.” Today the Sun on Sunday takes a closer look at the love life of the Premier League’s hottest new star.
Pato — a nickname, which translates as “duck”, taken from his home town Pato Branco — signed on loan from Brazilian side Corinthians last month, despite the South American club at one stage holding out for a £10million sale.
He described the move as a “dream come true” — standard stuff for a new signing, but earning £31,000 a week at Stamford Bridge is in stark contrast to his turbulent start to life in Brazil’s south. Aged 11, Pato broke his arm, but during routine tests doctors discovered a tumour.
He was told to prepare for the possibility that his arm would need to be amputated. Fortunately, surgery to remove the tumour was successful. After that early scare Pato, whose full name is Alexandre Rodrigues da Silva, hit the ground running. In August 2007, aged 17, he was plucked from Brazilian side Internacional by Italian giants AC Milan. Fifa rules on non-EU minors meant he could not play until the following January.
Eight days into the new year he scored on his Serie A debut against Napoli, finishing the season with nine goals in 20 appearances for the European champions. But, propelled into super-stardom, his love of woman quickly emerged as he became Brazilian football’s pin-up. He met actress Sthefany Brito on a swimsuit photoshoot in 2007 and within months they were engaged.
After an on-off relationship they got married in Rio de Janeiro in July 2009, throwing a £170,000 party at the five-star Copacabana Palace hotel. Wearing matching Dolce & Gabbana outfits, they celebrated with hundreds of friends and family and in the following days were hailed as Brazil’s Posh and Becks by the country’s media.
Sthefany, then a 21-year-old soap opera star, followed her 19-year-old husband to live in Milan — but it was not long before cracks began to appear. Just weeks into their marriage reports emerged claiming that Pato was more interested in having wild nights on the town with fellow AC Milan stars, including Brazil legend Ronaldinho.
Nine months and 13 days after they tied the knot, their marriage was over. Pato stormed out of their Milan apartment and Sthefany moved back to Brazil to be comforted by her mum. It led to a bitter divorce, with Sthefany citing Pato’s constant partying as the reason for their split, according to reports. After a three-year legal battle that ended up reaching the Brazilian High Court, Pato agreed to pay £8,700 a month to Sthefany for 18 months.
Pato, who has scored ten goals in 27 games for his country, wasted no time moving on, shacking up in 2010 with that year’s Miss Brazil Debora Lyra, 26. Their whirlwind romance began while Pato was watching Brazil at the World Cup in South Africa — injury cost him his place in the squad — and the star whisked her away for a weekend in Venice.
But they split after a month, blaming their hectic work lives. Speaking about the break-up, Debora said: “Our agendas are very busy, very complicated. I would have to go to Italy, because he cannot come to Brazil.” Pato remained at AC Milan, where he was touted as one of the best prospects in world football, but injuries hampered his progress.
Yet it was not all doom and gloom in the Italian city.It was there, in late 2010, he began a relationship with Barbara Berlusconi, 31, daughter of notorious former Italian PM — and AC Milan owner — Silvio. The pair would attend matches together when he was injured and rumours circulated she was pregnant after he was photographed kissing her stomach.
But soon reports began to emerge that their relationship caused unrest among other players because of his close links to the owner. With Pato struggling to stay fit, Milan cut their losses and sold him to Brazilian club Corinthians in January 2013. \The distance took its toll. Barbara was photographed with another man at a restaurant, while Brazilian and Italian media linked Pato to Camila Oliveira, a 22-year-old ring girl on a leading Ultimate Fighting Championship TV show in Brazil.
Both fiercely denied any infidelity. And despite Pato displaying a shirt reading “True Love” when his team won the league that season, the pair split in July 2013. He tweeted at the time: “After two and a half years of dating with many good things! The distance put an end to the relationship.”
In 2014 the ladies’ man reportedly told a Brazilian website that he “likes to have girlfriends”.
Such was the fevered speculation about Pato’s love life in his homeland that last year it was falsely reported on Brazilian websites that he had been exchanging raunchy messages with stunning 32-year-old Playboy girl Marcela Souza. She told a website how the star offered her £5,000 to sleep with him and sent her explicit pictures.
It later turned out Marcela had been a victim of an elaborate hoax. Now Pato is dating stunning actress, model and TV presenter Fiorella Mattheis, 27. The pair hit it off after meeting through a mutual friend. Speaking about online rumours about their romance before they had got together, Fiorella said: “So many people were saying on social media we were together, so we ended up arranging to meet up.
“He had got hold of my phone number, we began to talk and we got to know each other.” Last week she and Pato were house-hunting in Hyde Park and Kensing-ton, West London. She posted a picture of herself on Instagram in front of a row of homes with the note: “It’s London time.”
He also took to Twitter to wish her happy birthday. He posted a picture of the pair of them on the beach with the message: “I love you #happybdaymylove.” But the pair are not planning on marriage or children any time soon. Speaking in Brazil earlier this year, Fiorella, who has also been married once before — to Brazilian jiu-jitsu star Flávio Canto — said: “We are super happy, but do not intend to get married or get pregnant now.
“It’s not that I did not want to marry again. “But I have lived it already and for now life will show us other pathways.” While Pato hopes to get his chance to impress the Chelsea fans soon, Fiorella may well be the woman to end his scoring days for good.
