Five people, including four members of a family, were killed as a microbus slewed sideways into a roadside canal at Silonia on the Noakhali- Comilla highway in Laksam upazila early Saturday, UNB reports.
The deceased were identified as Yunus, 61, a resident of West Charkaria village of Noakhali Sadar upazila, his wife Somena Begum,55, their son Faruk, 32, and their son-in-law Latu Miah, 39, son of Hafizullah, haling from Barahipur village in Noakhali Sadar upazila and microbus driver M Nurnabi, 28, son of Mohammad Mostafa, hailing from Char Bashura in Kamalnagar upazila of Laxmipur district.
Officer-in-charge of Laksam Police Station Abdullah Al Mahfuz said the microbus was heading towards Dhaka from Noakhali in the night. When the vehicle reached near Silonia Bridge, it skidded off the highway and fell into a roadside canal as the driver lost his control over the wheels around 12am.
The bodies were sent to hospital morgue for autopsies, the OC added.
