Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) unearthed a secret training camp of militants and arrested five suspected militants from Lotmoni area in Banshkhali upazila on Saturday, reports UNB. The arrestees were identified as Aminul Islam, Abdul Khaleq, Habibur Rahman, Amir Hossain and Mobashsher. The Rab team also seized three AK-22 rifles, six revolvers, one pistol and three LGs and around 800 rounds of different types of bullets from the camp.
At a press briefing over the drive, Rab media wing director Mufti Mahmud said they got information over the training camp from the statements of 12 suspected militants who were arrested from Hathazari on February 19. Militants had been carrying out their activities in the camp undercover of a livestock and poultry farm set up in the hilly area of Lotmoni in Sadhanpur union, he said. He said people were brought to the camp blindfolded for giving training on militancy with 10-12 being trained up at a time.
Sadhanpur UP chairman Samiuddin said locals stopped visiting the hill after it was declared preserved forest in 2011. He said one Maulana Mobarak who came here from Sanua of Banshkhali after a storm in 1991 set up the livestock and poultry farm there along with one Maulana Aziz. “Youths were given training on operating firearms in the camp,” he added.
